| Oz Shadow Yoga has been developed by my teacher, Shandor Remete, as a way of practising yoga that focuses on breath, movement and awareness of how energy comes alive and flows within the body. The beginners’ class (Tuesday 6.15pm) is suitable for people who are completely new to yoga or who have never tried Shadow Yoga before. The class begins with simple movements to warm-up the neck, shoulders, waist, wrists and ankles. It then moves on to the powerful standing movements of the first prelude - the Balakrama (step to strength) - to strengthen the legs and build heat in the body. You will also start to learn to link the movement of breath with the movement of the body and to memorise simple sequences for your own practice. The intermediate class (Thusday 6.15pm) is for people who have previously practised Shadow Yoga or who have several years' experience of other forms of yoga. This year the class will concentrate on the third prelude, Kartikkeya Mandala (garland of light) and the primary seated asanas that follow. This prelude requires the strength and flexibility of body, length of breath and inner awareness that is learnt in the first two preludes. The sequence of lunges and spiraling movements is designed to remove deeply held restrictions and blockages thereby enabling your energy to flow more freely and effectively. All students are encouraged to develop a practice at home. Oz has been practising yoga for 20 years. She has previously taught Iyengar and Astanga Yoga and has worked with Shandor Remete since 1998. She is a British Wheel of Yoga teacher. Please refrain from eating within at least two hours of the class. You will need to wear loose comfortable clothing and have bare feet.
